Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour
  • Sugar
  • Eggs
  • Unsalted butter or oil
  • Baking powder
  • Vanilla extract
  • Milk or buttermilk
  • Optional: cocoa powder, sprinkles, matcha, or strawberry flavoring

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix your preferred batter flavor and pour into greased mini cake pans, ramekins, or silicone molds.
  3. Bake for 15–20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  4. Slice cakes horizontally to create two layers.
  5. Spread frosting, jam, or Nutella between layers and sandwich gently.
  6. Apply a crumb coat of frosting and chill for 10 minutes.
  7. Frost the outside smoothly and decorate with piped messages, sprinkles, or edible pens.

Notes

Customize with your child’s favorite colors or themes. Bento cakes are about creativity, not perfection. Ramekins or silicone molds work great as substitutes for mini pans.
