A cozy Japanese-inspired milk tea blending nutty Genmaicha with creamy milk for a soothing, aromatic experience known as ‘popcorn tea’.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tbsp high-quality Genmaicha loose leaf
  • 1 cup filtered water
  • ¾ cup milk of choice (oat, almond, dairy, etc.)
  • 12 tsp sweetener (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat water to 175–185°F (80–85°C).
  2. Steep the Genmaicha for 1–2 minutes for a light brew or up to 4 minutes for a stronger taste.
  3. Warm your choice of milk and froth if desired.
  4. Pour brewed tea into a cup and add the warmed milk.
  5. Stir in sweetener to taste.
  6. Optional: For iced version, cold brew Genmaicha overnight or chill hot tea over ice before combining with milk.
  7. Garnish with roasted rice, a sprinkle of matcha powder, or a drop of vanilla if desired.

Notes

Use mellow milks like oat or almond for the best harmony. Avoid boiling water to preserve the delicate flavor of Genmaicha.
